Qatar and Saudi Arabia Deepen Economic and Trade Ties Through Coordination Council

Qatar and Saudi Arabia are advancing their economic collaboration through the Qatari-Saudi Coordination Council, focusing on strengthening trade and industrial ties. High-ranking officials from both nations have assessed ongoing cooperative projects, aiming to boost bilateral trade, support private-sector enterprises, and enhance economic integration.

The trade relationship between the two countries saw substantial growth, with trade reaching approximately $1.98 billion in 2025, marking a 36 percent increase from the previous year. Notably, in the first quarter of 2026, their bilateral trade rose by around 18 percent, surpassing the target of 15 percent. Qatari exports to Saudi Arabia accounted for over $1.42 billion, and more than 977 Saudi companies are currently operating in Qatar.

Discussions between the nations included streamlining import and export procedures, bolstering small and medium-sized enterprises, and improving supply chain integration. Expanding financial cooperation and addressing trade barriers to facilitate easier business operations in both markets were also on the agenda. The two sides are keen on completing existing initiatives to promote further economic and industrial integration.

A significant focus was placed on the forthcoming Joint Economic and Trade Strategy, which will lay out priorities, initiatives, and measurable targets for the next phase of bilateral economic cooperation. This strategy aims to provide a structured approach to elevate the economic partnership between Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to resolving existing trade challenges and emphasized the importance of completing the initiatives that have been agreed upon. This move is expected to foster a more integrated economic and industrial environment between the two nations, reflecting their mutual interest in strengthening ties and supporting regional economic growth.
