Qatar and Iraq have taken a significant step towards enhancing their economic relationship by forming a joint business council aimed at boosting trade and investment. This development was announced following a meeting hosted by Qatar Chamber, which welcomed an Iraqi business delegation led by Amer Khalaf Alawi, President of the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce. The meeting served as a platform for business leaders from both nations to explore various opportunities to elevate bilateral trade and mutual investments.
During the discussions, approximately 60 investment opportunities were identified, linked to Iraq’s ambitious Development Road project, which is valued at around $250 billion. These opportunities span a wide array of sectors including transport and logistics, manufacturing, energy and utilities, mining, oil and gas, agriculture, information technology, real estate, and tourism. The joint business council aims to facilitate communication between companies and entrepreneurs in Qatar and Iraq, fostering joint investment projects and strengthening cooperation, particularly among small and medium-sized enterprises.
The establishment of the Qatar-Iraq Joint Business Council was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding signed by Qatar Chamber and the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce. This initiative reflects a strong commitment from both sides to enhance private-sector partnerships and increase trade activities. Businesses from both countries are encouraged to explore the diverse investment opportunities available, aiming to capitalize on the potential for economic growth and collaboration across various industries.
This cooperative effort underscores the intent of both nations to promote economic ties and underscores the potential benefits of cross-border collaborations. By focusing on key sectors and fostering a conducive environment for business partnerships, Qatar and Iraq are positioning themselves to leverage their respective strengths and resources for mutual economic benefit.
