Qatar took part in the 89th meeting of the Gulf Health Council and the 12th meeting of the GCC Health Ministers’ Committee in Manama, Bahrain, on Sunday. The Qatari delegation was headed by Minister of Public Health Mansoor bin Ebrahim Al Mahmoud. These gatherings aimed to enhance collaboration among GCC nations within the healthcare sector.
During the meetings, officials evaluated the Gulf Health Council’s budget for 2027 and discussed upcoming initiatives. They also reviewed the 2026–2030 action plan, which outlines strategic goals and priorities for the region’s health agenda.
Key discussions centered around strategic decisions affecting the region, including the storage of essential supplies such as food and medicines, and health screenings for expatriate workers. These topics are critical for ensuring the long-term health and safety of residents within the GCC.
Among other significant topics was the Gulf Strategy for Combating Drugs, which is set for implementation from 2025 to 2028. Plans to establish a Gulf Centre for Food Risk Assessment were also on the table, aiming to bolster food safety standards across the region.
Furthermore, officials assessed the progress made since the last GCC Health Ministers’ Committee meeting, ensuring that previous decisions are being effectively carried out to meet the region’s health objectives.
