At a high-level ministerial meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Qatar reaffirmed its commitment to a two-state solution as the foundation for achieving lasting peace in the Middle East. Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi, emphasized the importance of adhering to international law and relevant UN resolutions in this endeavor.
Qatar advocates for the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state, delineated by the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The envisioned Palestinian state would coexist peacefully alongside Israel. As part of its diplomatic efforts, Doha urged nations that have yet to recognize Palestine to do so, underscoring the necessity of international support for the two-state framework.
Al Khulaifi highlighted several challenges impeding the realization of a two-state solution, including ongoing settlement expansion, land seizures, and settler violence in the West Bank. He also pointed out that actions affecting the status of religious sites further undermine peace prospects. Additionally, the conflict in Gaza and the ensuing humanitarian crisis were identified as significant threats to regional stability and efforts toward a political settlement.
Qatar is actively engaged in diplomatic initiatives, collaborating with countries such as Egypt, the United States, and Türkiye, to support ceasefire and peace efforts. The country also remains committed to providing humanitarian assistance to Palestinians and contributing to international initiatives aimed at improving living conditions in Gaza.
The reaffirmation of Qatar’s stance on the two-state solution and its continued commitment to diplomatic and humanitarian efforts underscore a broader international push towards resolving one of the most protracted conflicts in the Middle East.
