Qatar Joins GCC Meeting in Bahrain to Enhance Regional Social Development Collaboration

In a bid to enhance regional cooperation on social welfare and development, Qatar took part in a significant meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Committee of Ministers of Social Affairs and Social Development held in Bahrain. The gathering aimed to bolster collaboration among GCC member states, focusing on social welfare, family support, and community development initiatives.

Represented by Minister of Social Development and Family Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, Qatar engaged in discussions that sought to improve coordination among the Gulf countries. The meeting emphasized sharing expertise and developing joint initiatives to tackle social challenges across the region. Key topics included the implementation of existing Gulf-wide decisions and the development of a comprehensive work plan for 2026–2030.

Among the critical issues addressed were disability rights, including the enforcement of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The committee considered a proposal to establish a regular Gulf forum dedicated to disability-related matters, highlighting the importance of inclusivity in social development agendas.

The ministers also explored the implications of artificial intelligence on children’s rights, examining both the opportunities and challenges presented by emerging technologies. Plans for a regional report on children’s rights and their future across GCC countries were also discussed, alongside further coordination on childhood protection and welfare.

Strengthening cooperation on women’s issues and considering new initiatives to advance social development throughout the Gulf region were also significant aspects of the meeting. These discussions reflect a broader commitment to addressing evolving community needs and ensuring that regional social programs are responsive and effective.

On the sidelines, Minister Al Nuaimi attended a 2026 ceremony that recognized prominent individuals and projects in civil social work. Several Qatari figures and initiatives received accolades for their contributions, underscoring Qatar’s active role in promoting social development within the GCC framework.
