Russian attacks on Kyiv and Kharkiv claimed at least one life and wounded 15 others, while political solutions were actively sought in Abu Dhabi negotiations. The strikes on residential areas underscored the human cost of the conflict as diplomats worked to find a peaceful resolution.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko warned Kyiv residents that the capital was experiencing a “massive enemy attack,” urging people to remain in shelters. The bombardment hit residential buildings, causing casualties and significant property damage. Essential services including heat and water were disrupted in parts of the city.
In Kharkiv, Iranian-made Shahed drones attacked multiple residential complexes, as confirmed by Mayor Igor Terekhov. The drone strikes caused extensive damage to civilian infrastructure, demonstrating Russia’s continued targeting of non-military areas. The northeastern city has faced persistent bombardment throughout the war.
Despite the violence, negotiators in Abu Dhabi actively sought political solutions. The UAE foreign ministry described the two-day talks between American, Russian, and Ukrainian representatives as focused on “promoting dialogue and identifying political solutions to the crisis.” The discussions represented the most significant diplomatic engagement in months.
Ukrainian President Zelensky suggested that peace proposals were “nearly ready” following his meeting with President Trump. He proposed creating a free trade zone in eastern Ukraine under Kyiv’s control, offering an economic component to political negotiations. President Putin engaged separately with Trump’s envoys, as multiple diplomatic channels remained active.
