On Sunday, Kyiv experienced new waves of missile and drone strikes from Russia, resulting in the death of at least one individual and injuries to 13 others, according to Ukrainian officials. These attacks followed closely on the heels of Ukraine’s targeting of logistics centers and warehouses within Russian borders the previous day.
Residents of the Ukrainian capital were alerted to the threat of incoming ballistic missiles through air-raid warnings, with explosions echoing throughout the city shortly thereafter. The onslaught affected six districts in Kyiv, causing notable damage. In the Solomianskyi district, an apartment building suffered damage, while fires ignited at a supermarket and a residential property in the Sviatoshynskyi district. Additionally, a shopping and entertainment center in the Dniprovskyi district, an apartment building in the Shevchenkivskyi district, and a non-residential facility were also struck.
Further south, in the central Dnipropetrovsk region, another life was claimed by a Russian drone attack. Meanwhile, on the Russian side, authorities reported a casualty in the Kursk region as a result of a Ukrainian strike.
This surge in hostilities comes after Ukraine’s drone attacks targeted logistics sites in Russia’s Moscow and Tambov regions. Ukrainian sources indicated that these locations were associated with the supply of components essential for drone production and navigation systems. In recent months, Ukraine has ramped up its long-range strikes on Russian soil, aiming at infrastructure and energy hubs in retaliation for the relentless Russian bombardments since the conflict ignited in 2022.
Compounding the challenges for Ukraine, the country is grappling with internal political tensions following a recent reshuffle within its government. Large crowds have gathered in multiple cities for three consecutive days to express their dissatisfaction with the removal of Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, an action that has stirred speculation about more extensive changes within Ukraine’s military leadership.
