Travel activity in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region is showing robust signs of recovery, as recent data indicates a 66.2% increase in demand from April to May. This resurgence highlights a renewed confidence among travelers in major aviation markets within the region. Over a slightly longer period, from March to May, the overall travel activity across GCC hubs has surged by 72.8%, reflecting a significant acceleration in growth.
The recovery has been notably strong in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, underscoring the resilience of the aviation sector in these countries. The UAE, in particular, has reinforced its status as the leading travel gateway in the region, with travel activity soaring by 75.6% between April and May. Major airports such as Dubai International, Abu Dhabi International, and Sharjah International have all experienced substantial growth, driven by the rising demand for both business and leisure travel.
Qatar has emerged as one of the fastest-growing travel markets, witnessing a remarkable increase in activity during the same timeframe. This growth is largely attributed to the performance of Doha’s Hamad International Airport, which has bolstered Qatar’s role in regional connectivity and international travel.
Saudi Arabia also continues to play a significant role in GCC travel demand, contributing notably to regional activity. Key cities like Riyadh and Dammam have supported the Kingdom’s sustained importance as a central aviation market.
The ongoing rebound in the GCC travel sector is a reflection of increasing traveler confidence, enhanced connectivity, and the robust aviation infrastructure in the region. As the peak travel season approaches, the sector is poised for continued growth and recovery.
