Qatar has been chosen to host the 9th Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GP2028), a major international forum led by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction. The selection recognizes Qatar’s strong capabilities, commitment to resilience, and ongoing support for global disaster-risk initiatives.
Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah, said the country is honored to host the 2028 session and emphasized its dedication to safeguarding communities and advancing global resilience efforts. She noted that the platform will offer an opportunity to accelerate collective action and address emerging risks in the final phase of the Sendai Framework.
The decision has been widely welcomed, reflecting confidence in Qatar’s vision, infrastructure, and political leadership in supporting international cooperation. Holding GP2028 in Doha is expected to play a strategic role, taking place two years before the conclusion of the Sendai Framework in 2030 and helping shape the global disaster-risk reduction agenda for the post-2030 era.
